This CD, quite atypical in the Italian and European recording scene in general, presents a comprehensive selection of music and songs by some of the most significant contemporary Israeli composers—unsurprisingly, considering the young age of the Israeli state. However, this music has not been specifically influenced by the avant-garde musical movements of the twentieth century; rather, its musical horizon is still partly linked to the European national schools of the late nineteenth century, albeit nourished by new accents in which the modes, melodies, and scales of Middle Eastern music are often present, blending into a new and original context. Recorded in high-resolution digital, "live in the studio," without an audience, during a warm summer afternoon in the small church of Sant'Apollinare in Monticello di Lonigo (province of Vicenza), this CD allows us to appreciate the exceptional interpretive skills of Valeria Fubini Ventura and Anna Barbero, and the talents of established composers such as Ravel, Milhaud, and Ben Haim.
