Eugene Ormandy e la Philadelphia Orchestra affrontano in questo programma due capisaldi del repertorio russo novecentesco. La Sinfonia n. 3 di Rachmaninov, con il suo linguaggio tardo-romantico e venature malinconiche, trova in Ormandy un interprete capace di equilibrare calore lirico e incisività ritmica. Segue la celebre suite Quadri di un’esposizione di Mussorgsky nell’orchestrazione di Ravel, resa con brillantezza timbrica e cura del dettaglio. Il colore orchestrale, la varietà dei contrasti e l’impatto sonoro complessivo mettono in risalto la tradizione sinfonica russa filtrata da una lettura intensa ed elegante.
