Notes
Orchestra of Padua and Veneto
The Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto was founded in October 1966 and over the course of forty years of activity has established itself as one of the leading Italian chamber orchestras in the most prestigious concert venues in Italy and abroad. The Orchestra is based on the "classical" symphonic lineup. Peter Maag - the great Mozart interpreter - was its principal conductor from 1983 to 2001, while Piero Toso held the role of first solo violin from its foundation to 2009. The artistic direction was followed by Claudio Scimone (from its foundation to 1983), Bruno Giuranna (from 1983 to 1992), Guido Turchi (1992-93) and, as musical director, Mario Brunello (2002-2003). The current artistic programmer of the Orchestra is Filippo Juvarra (Italian Music Critics' Award "Franco Abbiati" 2002). In its long artistic life the Orchestra has collaborated with the most illustrious names in international concert music. The Orchestra is the only Concert - Orchestral Institution (ICO) operating in the Veneto and performs around 120 concerts a year, with its own season in Padua, concerts in the Veneto region, in Italy for the major concert societies and festivals, and tours abroad. Among the most recent engagements are the concerts conducted by Maestro Tan Dun for the "AB Michelangelo" International Piano Festival, the concert at the "In terra di Siena" Festival conducted by Maestro Vladimir Ashkenazy, the concerts in Milan for the MITO SettembreMusica 2009 Festival with the pianist and conductor Olli Mustonen, and in Venice for the 53rd and 54th International Festival of Contemporary Music (2009 and 2010) and for the 7th International Festival of Contemporary Dance (2010) of the Venice Biennale, all events that have received unanimous critical acclaim. In September 2010, at the invitation of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, the Orchestra performed the Requiem K 626 by WA Mozart conducted by Maestro C. Desderi in the presence of His Holiness Benedict XVI. Since 1987 the Orchestra has undertaken a vast recording activity, making over fifty recordings for the most important labels, among which we can mention: Bach's Concertos BWV 1054 and BWV 1058 and Mozart's Concerto K 503 with S. Richter and Y. Bashmet (Teldec), Boccherini's Cello Concertos with D. Geringas and B. Giuranna (Claves-Grand Prix du Disque 1989), Mozart's "La Betulia liberata" with P. Maag (Denon), the Complete Beethoven Symphonies with P. Maag (Arts), Mozart's Concerto K 466 with M. Argerich and A. Rabinovitch (Teldec). More recently, the oratorio "The Passion of Jesus Christ" by JG Naumann conducted by S. Balestracci (cpo) and the DVD "Homage to Amadeus" with François-Joël Thiollier, piano (Multigram) were released. The Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto is supported by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities, the Veneto Region, the Province of Padua, the Municipality of Padua and the Antonveneta Foundation. Since October 2011, it has acquired the legal status of a «<Foundation».
