In this live album, Karl Böhm leads two of Berlin's most prestigious ensembles in a performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. The first three movements are entrusted to the Deutsche Oper Berlin Orchestra, with a solemn and balanced interpretation. The final movement, recorded with the Deutsche Oper Berlin Orchestra and Chorus, introduces the power of Schiller's text, thanks also to the voices of Christa Ludwig, James King, and Walter Berry. The result is a solemn and intense version of the "Choral," where Beethoven's grand architecture finds full expression in the combination of orchestra, chorus, and soloists.
